Job Responsibilities
The Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic will work onsite in
Afghanistan with our team on the Mining Investment and Development for
Afghanistan Sustainability (MIDAS) project.
• This position will
conduct primary medical assistance and instruction for the EWP MIDAS
expatriate and national staff members for illness, injury and trauma
resulting from accidents or incidents congruent with a war zone in all
EWP MIDAS areas of interest including remote locales.
• This person
will also provide support in the collection and dissemination of
security pertinent information as well as operations management for the
program.
• Assists the Security Manager in writing and developing
policies and procedures, assist in performance assessments and oversight
in all necessary training modules for the security staff and provides
protection to designated persons when necessary.
• May also review and report accidents, inspect areas for safety and safety hazards and file reports on safety precautions.
•
Responsible for conducting internal investigations and investigating
the unauthorized removal of program property as directed.
Basic Qualifications
• Three (3) years of security management experience with at least one (1) year of management on a USAID funded project
• Three (3) years of medic experience gained while providing high threat protective services in a conflict zone
• Five (5) years of conflict zone experience; preference to candidates that have both Iraq and Afghanistan experience
• Have experience / knowledge in current Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) guidelines

Successful completion of National Registry Paramedic (NREMT-P)
certification or the international or military equivalent thereof
• Submission of current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or the international or military equivalent thereof
• Submission of current approved CPR credentials for the professional rescuer
• NREMT-P and ACLS registration must be valid for the period of deployment
Education
This
position requires both a high school diploma or equivalent. Attendance
and successful completion of a postsecondary certification program may
be required, which can be completed in less than 1 year (may last up to 2
years).
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
(NREMT) certifies EMTs and paramedics. All levels NREMT certification
require completing a certified education program and passing the
national exam (both written and practical parts).
Paramedics may be
required to earn an associate’s degree by attending an educational
program in emergency medical technology offered by technical institutes,
community colleges and facilities that specialize in emergency care
training.
Preferred Qualifications
• Current Advanced Medical
Life Support (AMLS), Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), and/or
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certifications
• Experience and understanding of Afghanistan Anti-Government Elements (AGE) and their Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)
