Safety & Emergency Response Officer - Underground Mining

Previous Underground Mining Experience essential

Located in Perth, our client is an Australian based mining company with a focus on copper production and exploration. They hold mining and copper exploration activities in both the Pilbara region WA, as well as the Mount Isa Block in QLD.
Due to current expansions and restructuring, our client is currently seeking an experienced Safety & Emergency Response Officer.

Successful candidates will be reporting to the Health & Safety Manager and forms an integral part of the OHS&T function on site. This position has a coordination role in that projects are continued according to required timelines or as directed by the H&S Manager.

This is a critical role and the incumbent must be a visible presence across the mine site, including attendance at meetings to communicate and understand the day to day activities of the mine and workforce.This role is a permanent Fly in Fly Out role on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster to the Mount Gordon operations.

The role will encompass the following duties;
Provide primary medical aid, rescue and recovery services across all departments with assistance of crew ERT members.
Maintain site ambulance, fire rescue truck and all recovery equipment;
Train in and maintain own and ERT member skills with monthly and annual recertification and ER - Medical - OHS skills maintenance training
Provides up to date advice, leadership and rescue-medical support and advice on these matters to relevant stakeholders.
OHS is accountable for provision and maintenance of: Occupational Safety, Health & Training including
OHS management systems, research and training development solutions to site departments, On site personnel, contractors and visitors as required; and assists in inspections and audits for OHS systems;
Maintain currency of Emergency Procedures according to relevant legislation, standards and guidelines
Provide induction training to daily visitors and contractors

Successful candidates must possess the following qualification and attributes;
Underground Mining experience essential
Qualified Industrial Medic or Qualified Nurse with current qualifications in training, TAE Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
Ability to co-ordinate and provide ER training.
Ability to diagnose and treat emergency and medical conditions.
Advise on health and lifestyle issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act (2003), Mining and Quarrying Act 1999 and Regulations 2001, AS/NZ and ISO Standards.
Good professional communication skills, both written and oral and an ability to work in a remote area with a minimum of supervision.
